These two words combined describe the vision for my barber shop and this is our story.
QG Tradition

Spending a large portion of my life unsatisfied with previous haircuts or the process involved, I felt compelled to address the issue by opening my own shop, the Quinntessential Gentleman. I anticipated that I was not the only unhappy male in Baltimore and hoped my clients would appreciate my passions for nostalgia and a return to gentlemanly manners, proper grooming and dress.

Over the past century, the barber shop has been on a downward spiral. Services such as straight razor shaves were eliminated due to lack of time or skill. Unfortunately barbering has been transformed from an art to a basic ritual of shortening hair.

Most salons have taken a different approach providing more service and attention to the client, but it is clear by their appearance and business model that they are not focused on men. Barbers are the only true hair dressers trained to use all of the tools of the trade specifically for men. We give them the time and the atmosphere to properly apply their craft.

Our service list originates from barber shops of the 1800's, then known as tonsorial parlours. In addition, we offer fine cigars, premium grooming products, and hard-to-find gentleman's accessories. We hope to provide you the pleasure of experiencing our uncompromising service.

On a more personal note, you may have noticed, I spelled Quinntessential with an additional n. The shop's name and logo came from my desire to honor my Irish heritage and my deceased mother, by using her maiden name, Quinn.

I look forward to seeing you in my shop.

Cheers,

Craig Martin
